Bike Lane
Inspiration: That time in the late 2000's the township I grew up in told my parents they were going to install a bike lane along our road. And therefore needed to remove the 5-6, twenty-something year old trees at the front of the property to do so. We asked them kindly not to do that, to which they replied by sending out guys with chainsaws to cut down those trees.
They "let us" keep the wood. They widened the road to accommodate the path, only then realizing it had to stop at the top of the hill as it was going to cut through preserved farmland. To this day there aren't any markings for a bike lane and the only part of the road that got expanded was the quarter mile strip along our yard and the adjacent neighbor's yards.
Undue stress was put on my family, especially my Dad who volunteered as a firefighter for the township for over 20 years, and loved those trees. Perfectly healthy trees, killed for no real reason at all.
All money from this painting will be used to plant as many trees as will fit in the grove in my front yard.
